Hootsuite Partners with BPTN to Create Opportunity for Canada's Black Technology Professionals

Hootsuite and 50 leading tech companies partner with BPTN to help end systemic racism in the technology sector by providing Black professionals with equal access to opportunities in tech, an expanded peer network, and support in accelerating career growth.

Vancouver – July 30, 2020 – Hootsuite announced today its partnership with the Black Professionals in Tech Network (BPTN). Alongside a group of 50 leading Canadian technology companies, Hootsuite has committed to working toward a diverse and equal innovation economy, and to fighting against the systemic racism and oppression that have shaped the culture of Canada and its tech industry.

“At Hootsuite we know that true change comes from within, so we will continue to challenge ourselves to do better, and from that change we hope to positively impact the larger tech community,” said Tara Ataya, VP People, Hootsuite. “Through this important partnership with BPTN, and the power of social, we believe we can create a lasting difference within our organization and beyond.”

BPTN is supporting the advancement of Black professionals in Canadian tech by helping bridge the industry's network gap through an engaged community of Black tech and business talent. Hootsuite will work with the organization to implement strategies to drive a more inclusive business and internal culture, and to challenge and address bias.

“We’re looking forward to our work with Hootsuite, which will move the needle on attracting, hiring, and promoting Black tech talent within the Canadian tech ecosystem,” said Lekan Olawoye, Founder and CEO, Black Professionals in Tech Network (BPTN). “Hootsuite is a homegrown Canadian company of over 1000 employees, and an important part of Canadian tech’s fabric—we’re excited to be building towards a Candian technology landscape that’s equal and diverse, together.”

“We have a duty to create meaningful change in ending discrimination and systemic racism,” said Ataya. “Our work with BPTN will help us do business in a way that's diverse, equitable, and human-first to diversify talent networks and support Black employees.”
